In the archaeological Museum Il Compito, there are fossils of unknown origins, but they definiately do not belong to the same local alluvial contest of the other pre-historic and Roman materials of the museum collection.
In particular there are 2 rests, Lucinidae and pectinidae, of two different ages which are of great interest. There is also a
wood
/silicon fragment which cannot be associated to a geologic era. It is only possible to suppose that it was found in the Val Marecchia area.
The origins of a big
bone
fragment are is also unknown. It is supposed to belong to an elephant; there are no deposits on it but there are clear signs that it has been transported by water. It can be dated back 100.000 years ago. The excavations made in Teodorani’s property brought to light the first traces of frequentation in the Compito area during the Neolithic age ( II millennium B.C.)
The main finding was a rectangular cavity surrounded by holes designed for posts. That could be the
base
for the roof of a house. In it, fragments of two
vases
have been found; near them there were rests of animal
bones
, probably left after eating.
Only between the IX and the VII centuries B.C. did the area of the Compito become more important: Verucchio, a nearby and very popular town, conditioned the growth of the entire area.
